The Nordheim Gallery was established by Covington Independent Public Schools in 1990 on the Holmes High School campus for students' fine arts enrichment and as an outreach to the community.  through the years the gallery has featured the work of hundreds of regional and visiting artists - professional, amateur, and emerging who work in a variety of fine arts, craft and media.  Student artwork has been featured and promoted annually giving the student artists an authentic audience for their work.  Holmes students visit the gallery with their teachers during class time  Lectures, discussions and activities have covered a broad range of topics including art elements, principles of design, artistic process culture traditions, careers in art, art as therapy, social movements, history, and illustrating the written word.  The community has been invited to numerous opening receptions and can access the gallery during special events on campus or by appointment.  As often as possible the gallery features work by Holmes alumni.  Additionally the gallery has been host to more than a dozen poetry readings in the last four years.  During the last seven years the gallery averaged approximately 2000 visitors a year.
